Why

Bali

?

Bali is one of the world’s most visible

frontlines of plastic pollution,

an island celebrated for its beauty but often criticised when waves of waste wash ashore. By launching our fourth project here, Seven Clean Seas is tackling a local crisis with global visibility.

A closer look

A high-use coastline where rivers and drainage channels funnel inland waste straight into the sea, Tanjung Benoa is the starting point for Seven Clean Seas’ operations on the island.

At the heart of the project is the OTTER (Offshore & Tidal Trash Extraction Rig).

document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function () { const lottie = document.getElementById("lottie-Map"); if (!lottie) return; const observer = new IntersectionObserver((entries, observer) => { entries.forEach(entry => { if (entry.isIntersecting) { lottie.play(); observer.unobserve(entry.target); } }); }, { threshold: 0.5 }); observer.observe(lottie); });

The specialised nearshore cleanup vessel, donated by MOL Indonesia, operates daily along the Serangan–Benoa corridor to intercept plastic before it spreads offshore. Collected material is processed nearby at the TPS3R (Tempat Pengolahan Sampah dengan prinsip Reduce, Reuse, dan Recycle) facility in Desa Adat Tanjung Benoa.

Working together with local authorities and the community ensures the work strengthens Bali’s broader waste management efforts.

How We Work

Target

  • Bali generates huge amounts of mismanaged plastic, with much of it washing into rivers and onto the coastline.
  • Tanjung Benoa is especially vulnerable, where heavy tourism meets inland waste streams, making it one of the island’s most polluted shorelines.

How We Work

Collect

  • At the centre of the project is OTTER (Offshore & Tidal Trash Extraction Rig), a nearshore cleanup vessel operating every day along the Serangan–Benoa corridor.
  • OTTER intercepts floating plastic before it drifts further offshore, funneling debris onto the vessel for recovery.
  • A full-time Seven Clean Seas crew unloads the daily collection and transports it to a nearby processing facility.

How We Work

Recycle

  • Collected waste is processed at the nearby TPS3R Panca-Lestari facility in Desa Adat Tanjung Benoa.
  • Recyclables like PET bottles and HDPE containers are channelled into Bali’s circular economy network, while non-recyclables are managed through structured recovery loops to minimise landfill.
